Working at Height FAQ
Working at height, applies to any place where, if precautions are not taken, an individual can fall a distance likely to cause personal injury. Work at height does not include a slip or a trip on the same level, as a fall from height has to involve fall from one level to a lower level. It also does not include falling when walking up or down a permanent staircase in a building.
A person is deemed to be working at height if they:
1) work about ground/floor level
2) could fall from ground level into an opening in a floor
3) could fall from ground level into a hole in the ground
4) could fall from an edge through an opening
5) could fall from an edge through a fragile service
The 2005 Regulations apply to all work at height, where there is risk of a fall liable to cause personal injury. They place a duty of care on employers, and those who control any work activity at height such as facilities managers and those who sub contract this work. As part of the Regulations, they must ensure that:
1) all work at height is properly planned and organised
2) those involved in work at height are competent
3) the risks from work at height are assessed, and appropriate work equipment is selected and used
4) the risks of working on or near fragile surfaces are properly managed
5) the equipment used for work at height is properly inspected and maintained
Failure to abide by the Regulations can result in civil and criminal prosecution.

Do courses expire?
There is no expiry date on course credits. Once a credit has been bought it can be allocated at any time. However, should the credit have been allocated to the delegate, each learner then has 12 months to complete the course.
In other words, unallocated course credits have no expiry date. If for example you ordered 1000 licences, and allocated 600 courses in year 1, you would have 400 licences left to allocate in year 2.
