The moving and handling of people is a regular task in health and social care, which if not done safely, can cause serious injury to service users and staff.
The following legislation is relevant for assessing moving and handling risks, and is covered in our patient
1) Health and Safety at Work etc Act 1974 (HSWA)
2) Manual Handling Operations Regulations 1992 (MHOR) (as amended 2002)
3) Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations 1999
4) Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER)
5) Lifting Operations and Lifting Equipment Regulations 1998 (LOLER)
Moving and handling is a key part of the working day for most employees; from moving equipment, laundry, catering, supplies or waste to assisting residents in moving. Poor moving and handling practice can lead to:
1) back pain and musculoskeletal disorders, which can lead to inability to work
2) moving and handling accidents – which can injure both the person being moved and the employee
3) discomfort and a lack of dignity for the person being moved You must take action to prevent or minimise the risk of injury.

Do courses expire?
There is no expiry date on course credits. Once a credit has been bought it can be allocated at any time. However, should the credit have been allocated to the delegate, each learner then has 12 months to complete the course.
In other words, unallocated course credits have no expiry date. If for example you ordered 1000 licences, and allocated 600 courses in year 1, you would have 400 licences left to allocate in year 2.
